Speaker 1: Welcome to your weekly video tip with Kats Consultants.
David Kats: Hi. This is David Kats and Dr. Michael Perusich of Kats Consultant and we have a video tip for you today. Today’s tip is not about how to build your practice, but how to keep yourself safe. I want to tell you that one of the things we see that some of our clients do, it is treating minors without having a consent to treatment of a minor form signed. Now, that’s absolutely necessary.
Dr. Michael Perusich: It’s absolutely necessary, yes. You can’t treat a minor even one time without that consent form. It has to be from the proper parent or guardian.
David: That’s right. In other words, sometimes, a child will come in and their family is divorced and one of the parents has custodial parenting.
Dr. Perusich: Right.
David: The other does not. That other person can’t sign for that person, the custodial parent has to sign for it.
Dr. Perusich: That’s correct.
David: Another thing that happens a lot of time is that you have a patient that’s a good patient. Maybe the mother comes in and she wants her 17-year-old son to come in. He comes in at the football and she drives up and drops him off and takes off. You can’t treat that.
Dr. Perusich: That’s right.
David: You can’t treat that kid. It would be nice if you could, it’d be nice to make an exception, but as sure as you make the exception, you’re going to get into trouble. This is just a short, quick tip to tell you, don’t ever treat somebody that’s a minor without the proper consent, the treatment of minor form and you’ll be glad that you stayed clean and did it the right way, because then you don’t have to worry about any problems. This is David Kats and Dr. Michael Perusich. Thanks for listening.
